Reinforced concrete structures are exposed to complex environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, tidal splash zone and ingress of harmful chemicals, etc., which lead to a reduction in their durability. Premature failure of these structures can lead to loss of life, time, and money with corresponding environmental damage. Durability problems related to concrete structures are amongst the most serious issues affecting the civil engineering community today all over the world. Corrosion of steel reinforcement is the largest durability issue in construction globally, leading to spalling, delamination and structural failure .
